Whithorn 2024
National Pilgrimage to Whithorn
Sunday 25th August 2024
This year marks 100 years of the modern pilgrimage to Whithorn. Given this year’s significance the Bishops of Scotland have elected to make it a national pilgrimage rather than simply a Diocesan one.
We invite faithful from across Scotland to come and join us either on the beach at 4.00 pm or in St Martin and St Ninian’s Church, Whithorn at 4.45 pm. The celebrant on the beach will be Bishop Frank Dougan, the successor to Ninian, and in the church will be Bishop Joseph Toal, the Bishop of Motherwell.
The Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession) will be available in the church from approximately 1.00 pm, and on the beach prior to the Mass.
Many parishes across the Diocese and from further afield are organising coaches to transport pilgrims, if your parish is bringing a coach or minibus, we ask that you register in advance to assist with parking by emailing whithornpilgrimage@gallowaydiocese.org.uk.
We will also be counting down as a Diocese and you can hear from pilgrims past and present about their experiences and why they are looking forward to Whithorn 2025 by checking out our Facebook page or YouTube channel from Wednesday 31st July – a new video will be posted at 9.00 am each day.
